The "P" depicts the edifice "Blue Mall" (built in 2010). It has one of the most exclusive malls and hotels of Dominican Republic. Its architecture is overwhelming because of its solid and tall mass. This design expresses that throughout that period we had an increasingly stable economy and a profitable cultural development. 

 

The "A" portrays the tower "Acropolis Center" (built in 2000). This building signifies the entry of Dominican Republic to the globalization. Inside are the majority of the top headquarters in D.R.  It has an exclusive shopping area that includes restaurants, banks, shops, supermarkets, etc..

 

The "N" incarnates the building "Lincoln 1057" (built in 2015) .The imposing tower is an expression of the contemporary architecture in the Dominican Republic designed by a well-known Dominican architecture firm. Its usage is a fist class business center.

 

The "T" embodies the tower " Torre Piantini". (Built in 2003). This tower is a business center that has very important headquarters like Microsoft, and it also serves for embassies such as Canada and Germany. Its design represents an evolution in society because it communicates the blending of traditional architecture with contemporary architecture.

 

The last letter “N” portrays the building “Corporativo 2015”. Its contrasting design makes it one of the most visually shocking edifications in the country.

It is a symbol of Dominican entrepreneurship because it was built to be the main office of a Dominican created and owned company. The design is completely contemporary and it shows the success of our culture.

 

All the “I”s in the word “PIANTINI” represent the lampposts of the area and at the same time they serve as a visual orientation so that the observer doesn’t get distracted and can understand quickly the message of the whole word “PIANTINI”.

 

In the street we can see an illustration of sport cars. They demonstrate a popular cultural activity that Dominicans do in “Piantini” to socialize at night called  “El linconazo”. It is an outdoor activity that basically consists in parking luxury cars right next to the other throughout the whole avenue (called  “Abraham Lincoln”) to socialize with friends while listening to loud music and having some drinks. Some people do car races and tricks but only in the dawn because the streets are clear.

 

Santo Domingo is the capital of the Dominican Republic and “Piantini” is one of the main and exclusive commerce areas in Santo Domingo. It is a very nice district bordered by the main avenues of Santo Domingo. I chose to illustrate the landmarks of this zone because architecture is an expression that symbolizes the status of economy and culture of the time it was built in. Citizens find everything they need in Pianitni, from one of the best hospitals in D.R. to a beauty salon.
